TLC in a Tailspin over Rumors of Faking Breaking Amish

Last night marked the end TLC’s hit first season of Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo, the realest reality show of late. The more successful spin-off from the network’s cult series Toddlers and Tiaras has been renewed — sorry Eden — but there is some major drama brewing for another hit TLC show, Breaking Amish.

Breaking Amish follows the adventures of five Amish young adults as they embark on a permanent rumspringa in the Devil’s playground of New York City. We’ve seen them emotionally break from their family, eat sushi for the first time, head out on go-sees, and even go clothes shopping — on St. Marks, natch.

Unfortunately, the claim that we are watching “a never-before-seen look inside the lives of young men and women as they, for the first time, trade horse and buggy with taxi cabs to break out from their respective Amish/Mennonite communities” is completely false.

It all started with a Facebook page, as these things often do. Photos were posted of the cast who…

…have worn rather inappropriate “English” clothes that would’ve been forbidden by their Amish — or in Sabrina’s case, Mennonite — culture…

…have lived outside the Amish community, fathered three children, and been granted a divorce…

…have previously pursued a modeling career…

…and are married and have a baby, despite being depicted as never having met prior to the show.

Rebecca, holding the baby, also seems to have no teeth and wears dentures on the show. TLC claims that “much of it is not true, but some of it is — and is addressed in upcoming episodes,” which yes, duh; show editors must be working overtime this weekend.

Also, Jeremiah, the cast member who seems to have the biggest backstory omitted from the show, has quite a chatty ex-wife. She’s recently gave an interview about her ex-husband, who allegedly abused her through their six-year marriage and then abandoned their three kids.

Jeremiah, who is actually 32, hasn’t been Amish for 14 years!

Yikes.

Can’t wait to see how this plays out, but we’re sure the production company may have some troubles pitching any new reality shows to networks in the future.
