Aural Addiction: Emeli Sandé - Our Version of Events

Currently blowing up the buzz in the UK is singer, songwriter, and performer Emeli Sandé. Her sound is a more "grown" Janelle Monae, a softer Alicia Keys, and it shares a tone with India Arie. Her crazy voice also sounds like a less ghetto Keyshia Cole singing modern-day Soul II Soul.

She's writen for hip-hop, pop, and R&B acts. She's been featured in various singles as a backing vocalist that have been remixed into dub step, drum & bass, and assorted club noise. She's relaunched the careers of two artists with a "featuring" byline, both times landing in the Top 10 on the UK Singles charts.
It's refreshing to finally see a woman who has paid her dues in the industry not only get the support of an album but also a proper press tour. FUN FACT: She changed her name from Adele Sandé to her middle name Emeli because of the then-up-and-coming Adele. From Digital Spy:
"I changed it as soon as Adele came out. I just thought, 'You've kind of taken the [name] now', so I went with my middle name. She was just getting bigger and bigger, so I thought I just really need it."
